This month’s screening is a cult classic of Chicano cinema about an American citizen wrongly deported to Tijuana for the "crime" of looking Mexican without proper documentation. It's a satirical and often silly look at American immigration policy reduces complex people to a arbitrary categories like American, Mexican, and Other Than Mexican. We will we explore the double consciousness of Mexican-Americans who blur these categories — natural born citizens of the United States who are treated as less than true Americans. Join us as we laugh at the absurdity of drawing arbitrary borders and the inhumanity of current US immigration policy.
Part of a series of free, public film screenings to inspire, enlighten, and heal us in such a time as this on the 2nd Friday of each month. Co-Sponsored by Resurrection OB and the Ocean Beach Cinema Circle.
